dell windows 7 free upgrade offer
HP vs. Dell Laptops – Which are generally better?

I was going to wait until Windows 7 to look for a laptop, but since both HP and Dell are offering the Windows 7 free upgrade, I’ll probably start looking for one now.

I’ve had my eyes on Dell/Alienware laptops for a while, but as of now, anything other than the cheapest Inspiron model comes with only 64-bit Windows. I really don’t need 64-bit since I don’t need more than 4GB RAM, I’m not a big PC gamer, and I don’t want to deal with driver incompatibilities. I’d rather not get an Inspiron, since they only come with integrated graphics.

I’ve recently started looking at hp laptops, some of which come with 32-bit Windows, so I’m leaning toward hp.

These are my questions:
Which company offers better build quality in their laptops?
Which company offers better customer service?

Hello,

Win 7 will have the driver issues.
Every new release of Win historically has had issues.
So you are making a good call on that part.

The current Vista64 releases have resolved most of its issues.
Thats why most laptops, and systems will have the Vista64 already. Though there isn’t any problems running Vista32 either.

All laptops come with integrated GPU’s, but make sure its a Nvidia or ATI.

Everybody is going to have their own experience with service, and issue’s. Thus their own preference.
My preference is for HP/Compaq, since they provide printer/scanner support for linux besides Windows.
I suggest doing a search and reading of some laptop reviews.
