if i install win 7, can I used a burned copy of XP to downgrade and use the activation code, under my laptop?
I want to install windows 7 beta, the one you can download on microsofts page, but my laptop came with xp installed, not a CD.. but i have a Windows XP CD… burned,, Can I use my windows Key Under my laptop to get a genuine version of windows XP back?
If you want to go back to Windows XP after running Windows 7 beta, then you would have to get an OEM cd. That is, a Windows XP CD from that manufacturer.
If you can’t order a replacement copy from them, it’s very likely that a friend’s CD will work if they have the same brand. A Dell OEM XP cd will install on any Dell.
My personal recommendation is to use a free tool like GParted livecd to shrink your main partition and install Windows 7 alongside XP. That way, you don’t have to worry about removing and reinstalling XP.
