Windows 7 Student Clean Install?
I see that Windows 7 Student (the Student discount version) is an upgrade. However, at the bottom of the page there’s a link to a Microsoft support page saying that if you’re not upgrading from Vista Home Premium (I’m upgrading from XP Pro), you may need to do a custom installation. On the page it says that you can also use a custom installation if you don’t have an operation system. (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows)
Can I install do a clean install of Windows 7 (without already have an operating system on my hard drive) using a custom installation?
Thanks!
Yes you can install Windows 7 Student Upgrade on an empty hard drive. You’d need to create a bootable Windows 7 ISO image from the unpacked Windows 7 installation files and burn it to a DVD. Or, you can have the disc sent for an additional $13. It’s almost certainly a basic DVD disc in a sleeve though, not the boxed product.
Here’s the link for the workaround and other details.
