What are the benefits of Windows 7 Home Premium, compared to Windows 7 Professional?
According to this chart, there should be no benefit to using Home Premium compared to Professional.

I’m a student, therefore eligible to purchase either (home premium or professional) for only $40
At that price, I would just get the professional. If you don’t use the added features it is no loss.
What professional gives you is
1) XP Mode – if you have an application that will absolutely not run in Windows 7 this gives you a XP virtual machine integrated into Windows 7 to install it into and run there. XP Mode apps are started the same as any other application it is just the O/S handles booting up the VM for you.
2) BitLocker. If you have a laptop or external drive that you are concerned about losing the data on then you can use BitLocker to encrypt the drive. People that do not know you password will be unable to decrypt the drive to get at an information on the disk.
Personally, since they are both the same price I would go for it. As far as execution is concerned there is no difference to you.
