windows 7 dell upgrade disc
Windows XP Home/Pro multiple computer questions…?

OK, look, here’s the deal. My old Dell desktop died last weekend (7 years old) and I bought a new HP Pavilion 9000 laptop to replace it. The old Dell had Win XP Home on it and my new HP has Win XP media center.
My first question is can I use my old XP Home disk on my new HP, or would Msoft not allow it (when I go to register the product)?
The reason I want to do this is because you cannot use an XP Pro UPGRADE bundle to upgrade from XP Media to XP Pro. I would have to buy the entire XP Pro O.S.
However, you CAN upgrade from Home to Pro. I want to install XP Home on my new laptop, then a few hours later use the XP Pro UPGRADE disc. This will save me $200. I know that once you install a Win O.S., you have, what, 30 or 60 days to register it? So before I would even have to register it, I would have upgraded to XP Pro by then.

And before you ask, yes, I HAVE to upgrade to XP Pro. I will be running Dreamweaver, an IIS web server and Coldfusion App server and this all requires XP Pro.

I looked up why XP MCE can’t upgrade to Pro, and the reason is because it is based off of Pro. Try running the programs on your new machine.
