I bought a laptop that was eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. Can I upgrade my desktop instead?
The laptop was a Toshiba, but I want to upgrade my Dell desktop to windows 7. Will I be able to just use the CD they send me to upgrade the desktop, or is the upgrade specific to a certain manufacturer? I don’t plan on upgrading the laptop.
Until people receive those free upgrade discs, no one will know for sure if they’re tied to a particular manufacturer or not.
If they’re like the normal upgrade discs that are for sale separately, you’d be able to upgrade any computer with a prior Windows installation on it but the key will get tied to the first computer on which it’s activated.
