cannot boot windows xp after installing windows 7?
hi i was running windows xp. and recently i found a windows 7 beta cd so i installed it hoping to use both OSes in parallel.
but after installing 7, the boot loader for OS selection does not appear and instead it straight away boots to Windows 7.
now i need to boot from WindowsXP.
please tell me how to do it ![]()
i didnt edit the partition tables. the 2 OSes are in 2 different partitions
Even though you have installed the two operating systems on 2 different partitions, they both contain different boot loaders and Windows 7 has deleted the existing boot loader; (notice i didn’t say overwrite)
What you may not know is unlike Windows Vista and previous versions, which had a text version of boot.ini located in the root drive, Windows 7 has a self-inducing boot agent embedded into the partition table. This cannot be edited unless by msconfig in Windows 7. You would then need to add a second boot choice and refer to the partition containing Windows XP. This should work, but finding the boot.ini file is very hard. Here is an article on how to edit the Windows 7 boot loader to load Windows XP:

When there, edit your boot file to point to the partition in which you have installed Windows XP.
Good Luck. Hope this helps. Email me for more assistance.
