Leopard 10.5.7: How to restore NVinject.kext?
I have Mac OSx 10.5.7 installed on my Intel Xeon based PC. It’s a dual boot Mac-Windows 7 system using Chameleon as the bootloader.
The install worked perfectly. I followed the instructions found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=91755 in order to get my Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT (512 mb) card working.
Upon running the last command, the one to remove the NVinject.kext file, and rebooting is when the problem started. When I rebooted, I was loaded directly into Windows 7 instead of displaying the bootloader.
I’ve reverted my boot.plist back to the original for. The problem persists, so I assume it has to do with having to restore the NVinject.kext file that was removed. How do I do this without reinstalling the whole system?

Hey Dex! That .kext is for your NVIDIA Graphics card not your boot sequence. You can DL an NVinject.kext from insanelymac. However, your problem is with the Winnie bootloader. To restore your .kext file (it is just a text file) Copy the code from insanelymac, paste it into TextEdit and save it with the file name NVinject.kext. Make sure you get the 10.5.7 file ;D Then stick it in the proper directory. I haven’t examined the forum thread, but I believe you or the author made a small syntax error. The .kext should’ve been modified & not deleted. You may need a clean install, but try replacing the kext first. Good Luck Dex! (cold boot after replacing the file, and running repair permissions from disk utility)

Damn! You get booted directly into Win7. I didn’t read that part. You’re gonna need another Mac. Firewire them together, and boot the broken machine in “Target” mode. Hold down the ‘T’ key while hitting the power button. Once in target mode; your mac file system will be accessable from the healthy Mac. Your machine will show up as a Firewire HD on the host machine. Whew! Glad I re-read that! Peace Dood.
