windows 7 rc upgrade
will factory settings still work when i upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7?

Hi, i have Windows Vista installed on my Dell Inspiron 531 but i want to have Windows 7 installed (Not the RC windows 7 the one in stores like Amazon), if i upgrade my Windows vista to Windows 7 will my factory settings not work or will it? I got to know because i don’t know if i can upgrade or not… Thanks, by the way i don’t like windows vista which is why i want to upgrade. Vista sux =( .

Your laptop should have either a restore disk, which comes with the comptuer when you bought it, or you created it when first switching it on. Or it should have a recovery partition on the hard disk accessable when pressing F11 or some other key upon switchin on.

If the recovery process is only accessable from within windows and you upgrade then you will not be able to use the recovery program that comes with the computer. If however, you have a disk then yes you should be able to do a complete recovery. Although why you would want to beats the heck out of me.

Make sure you backup all your files when upgrading. And make sure you have all the drivers that windows 7 needs. You should be okay though, although card readers may have a problem.
