Sony Vaio vs HP Mini 311 Netbooks?
I have 2 options, but can’t decide.
HP Mini 311:
Intel Atom N270 Processor (1.6 GHz)
2048 DDR3 SDRAM
nVidia ION shared graphics memory
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit)
Vaio:
Intel Atom Processor N280 (1.66 GHz)
1 GB (that’s all it says, I would assume its the ram?)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Windows 7 Starter 32bit
Leaning towards the HP because I’ve had good luck with HPs and Compaqs… but I’ve never had a Sony computer so maybe its a decent brand? The Sony has the slightly better processor, but the HP has more ram… The Sony has a media accelerator whereas the HP has a shared… although I really don’t know which is supposed to be better.
Size, price, weight, memory, battery life, that’s all negligible. What I’m most interested in is speed and reliability. Please help!

There’s nothing to choose between the processors as their output will be roughly the same. The HP has double the amount of Ram to the Vaio so should be faster. 7 Home Premium is I believe the next stage up from the Starter Edition and to be honest you’ll probably need the extra ram to run it without glitches., this said, it is supposed to be better than Vista which it replaces in just about all departments if you go with all the reports in the media. The only thing about the HP is the shared graphics but really that all depends on what you’re going to use it for. I think I would be inclined to go for the HP regardless of that since overall the spec is better and you’re getting an improved operating system.
As far as Sony being a good brand, yes it is and they’re generally pretty reliable but I think I’m still drawn to the HP as the spec is slightly better.
