Can one upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 buying a Windows 7 upgrade retail version disc or not?
Hello. I have a question. Is there a way to upgrade from Windows XP “DIRECTLY TO” Windows 7 or not? …or do you have to go through Windows Vista in some way to get to Windows 7. I tell ya, for those who have Windows XP right now and want to go to Windows 7 will be angry and upset to find if there is no upgrade path to Windows 7. They are going to have to buy Windows Vista (too) before their way to Windows 7 or buy a “FULL” version (retail or OEM) of Windows 7. Is Microsoft aware of this as a large majority of PC users are Windows XP users and if they do not have an upgrade path to Windows 7, this could be the killer of Microsoft. I am not against Microsoft in any way, I am actually like Windows. I hope Microsoft is aware of this issue and is doing something about it. If no upgrade path, people will have to buy a “FULL” version of Windows 7 instead — BIGGER $$$!!! XP users will complain BIG TIME if no upgrade path. If you know the facts of this issue, please elaborate. Thanks!
There has been plenty written about this on many of the blogs that talk about Microsoft Win7. Microsoft stated quite a while back that there was, so far, no direct upgrade from XP to 7. Is this a small slap on the wrist for not going to Vista, maybe. I really don’t know.
But, it is always better to do a clean install when going to a new or different operating system anyway. It has been my experience as a computer tech/repair person, that Windows operating system upgrades don’t work all that well anyway. If you have your system properly backed up, as we all should, then doing a “clean” install would be a piece of cake, so to speak.
Case in point. When I moved from XP to Vista the whole process took me about 4 hours. In that small amount of time I had the OS installed, all data back in place,and the network up and running without a glitch.
