P4 631 based PC. Friends, please help.?
Am planning to buy the following PC.
Purpose:
Watching TV using my Pinnacle 110i card. Capturing video at a reasonable rate – Pinnacle Studio
Capturing Video from my Sony Hand Cam using firewire
Watching DVDs using WinDVD.
Burning DVDs
Browsing the net with IE 7 (20 tabs inside)
Background AVG Scanning
Background Google Desktop running
Using MS Office 2007
OS:Running Windows Vista
Most of the time I will be doing most of the things simultaneously
I plan to use it for 2 years.
Motherboard: Intel 945 GNT – 5000+ ( because I need more than 2 normal PCI slots)
CPU:Pentium 631 3GHZ with HT – 2900+
Ram: (1GB – DDR2 – 667 Corsair) * 2 – 4000(2000*2) (My logic is that it will help me do a lot of multi-tasking, plz comment)
Hard Disk: Seagate 160GB – SATA – 2500
Cabinet: Not Decided
SMPS: 500W or more – not decided
Graphics Card: Please suggest a suitable card.

A few suggestions:
- 2GB is a good choice for memory these days. Note that higher speed memory often has little performance impact. Check the benchmarks on www.tomshardware.com.
- Intel Core Duo CPUs have superior performance and use a lot less power.
- From what I’m seeing you don’t need a 500W power supply, 300W should do fine.
- I’m a big fan of NVidia graphics cards. ATI has provided me with crappy drivers one too many times. Check recent video benchmarks on www.tomshardware.com, then figure out what you’re willing to pay. For gaming the video card is the most important component.
- Get XP, not Vista. Vista is not ready. Drivers are crappy if they exist at all.
