What should I upgrade for better performance.?
Specs:
Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit
Asus M3N78VM
Amd 64, 4400+ am2
Ram ( 2 gigabytes, ddr2, at 800mhz)
Nvidia quadro nvs 290 pci express x16
2x Western Digital 7200 rpm , 8mb cache ( Software Raid 1)
Problem:
- I was running 2 firefox browsers each with 5 tabs. Each tab was running a youtube video, for a total of 10 youtube videos.
- 2 Virtual Machines, one running xp the other running Windows 7.
- 1 Gimp image editor program
- 2 Open office documents
This is what the system manager said:
1.8bg of ram used of 1.8gb = 100% Used
710mb of 5.4gb Swap used
100% Processing on both cores, then it eventually dropped to 38.3% and 52.1%, probably when the youtube videos stopped.
I was wondering should I upgrade my ram to 6gbs, or should I upgrade to a Amd x4, am2+ 9550
Thanks!
Update the RAM to at least 4 gigs – your processor(s) can wait.
