Windows 7 pro Xp mode?
I was looking into purchasing Windows 7 Pro as it said something about an Xp mode? that has compatibility with applications.
I’m interested in that. Could someone please explain to me what Xp mode is? I know it’s a virtual machine , but how exactly does a virtual machine work? is it a lot of space on the hard drive? is it a program on the desktop? i need some light shed on it. Thankyou :]
It is a program on your desktop. You can find out all about it on microsoft’s page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/
This type of VM is a “System virtual machine”. Put simply, it’s a simulated pc running inside of windows. It sets aside a piece of your hard drive. Then, you boot it up like it’s another PC running inside windows. From there it’s like any other computer except it has no real hardware. It’s all being emulated by Windows. It uses a predefined amount of ram and your processor when it’s running.
There is a lot to a Virtual machine. Check out the wiki page below for more info
